Endowments
An endowment is a permanent fund, sometimes named for the donor(s) or other individual(s). Endowment funds support a particular purpose or program. The fixed portion (gift principal) is invested and the earnings are used for the designated purpose or program. Sometimes, a donor may designate that the principal of the gift be held in perpetuity and the income be used as the Society sees fit (i.e., the income is unrestricted). The Society manages endowments using the "total return concept". This provides for a more predictable stream of income and for growth of principal over the long term. Please contact the Development Office if you are considering such a gift.

Gifts In Memory Of or In Honor Of
Gifts may be made in memory of or in honor of friends, colleagues, family members or other individuals. Such gifts can be made for the general support of AMS programs (General Fund) or the donor may direct the gift for a specific program, such as the Epsilon Fund. Gifts in Memory and Gifts in Honor are listed in the annual report on contributions published in the Notices. Reports in the Notices become part of the permanent archive of the American Mathematical Society. The most recent report may be found at 2006 Contribution List.
